Boquete is bustling during February Carnaval -- and so are Valle Escondido sales

February 2002 Update

Dear property owners and friends of Valle Escondido,

Another month has passed and, as usual, I am behind on my monthly update. But this time with an even better reason than usual -- Carnaval.

Carnaval

The first week of February waCarnaval -- Mardi Gras Panama style, a national holiday throughout the country -- and the whole town of Boquete was packed with tourists. Virtually no work gets done that week because of the many parties long into the night. I noticed that it was two days before the men returned to working at their full capacities. Our sales office was open and doing a brisk business over the holidays. Many Panamanians who came to see what everyone is talking about in this part of Panama purchased new homes. Now we have 15 different countries represented with Panama being the largest country group.

Single Level Duplexes Are SOLD OUT

We have nearly completed the second single level duplex along the ridge. We will have fourteen units in all, and they have all been sold. We have our work cut out for us in order to get them completed in a timely fashion. The two level units are also well under way. The first buyers came back for a visit last week and were amazed at how fast we are progressing each day. We also began the construction of the first single family home along the ridge last week, and soon another will be under way. There are about 20 homes in this area that need to be built during the next two years or so.

Pueblo Ready For Business

The Pueblo is looking more like a real town every day. The church walls are going up this week. Most of the shops in the first phase are finished and need only to have the old tile roofs, windows and doors installed. The clay brick walkways are going in now, and they are really beautiful. The gardeners have planted all of the seeds for the flower beds, and we should see some sprouting soon. Take a good look at the progress photo below, because in next month's update you are going to see the world of difference that the brick walkways and flowers will make.

Architect Now On Site For Your Customized Home Designs

We have moved almost all of our administration offices into the Pueblo now. The engineering department, finish show room, purchasing department, accounting department and project management are all in separate buildings that will one day become shops. The valley sales staff should be moving into their new offices in a few weeks. A new architect and civil engineer now join our staff. This allows us to work more closely with our clients on their custom and semi-custom home designs. We are all looking forward to April when the construction crews should be finished in the Pueblo and we can move on to building homes in other areas of the valley.

Get Ready For Park Sculptures

Now that we are in the finishing stages of the Pueblo, we can put in all of the artistic details that will bring the place to life. We have a great artist on staff who made the scale model of the valley (see the cover of the November issue in our new back issues Archive) and who drew all of the renderings that you see on this website. He will be joined next week by a sculptor who will be working full time to make the various statues and other art pieces that will adorn the parks and other areas of the valley. The church will have a beautiful mural as a backdrop to the domed pulpit area. I really have a hard time sleeping at night imagining all of the things they will be able to create to enhance the incredible beauty of this valley.

Electrifying Underground News

We have begun installing the underground utilities for the valley. It took some time to get the local electric company to get the needed power up to our front gate even though the electric poles were only a few hundred meters from the entrance. We are now running the primary and secondary underground cabling to the Pueblo and the duplex area. It will be a relief to be off of the generators, both for the noise and the expense of the diesel fuel.

As usual, there is much more being done than I have the time to write about and photograph. I have hit just some of the highlights, and the accompanying photos will give you a far better idea of our progress than my words ever can.

Until next month,
